TAJ MAHAL
History:
They were very close all the time. Mumtaz was a good companion.
The history of the Taj Mahal all started when Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor, had married Arjumand Banu. Arjumand was a Persian princess and was also known as Mumtaz Mahal after she married Shah Jahan in 1612. They loved each other very much.Arjumand was a great companion and she followed him everywhere. Even to military journeys and expeditions. But then, in 1631 the queen gave birth to her 14th child, Gauhara Begum, and had stopped breathing and passed away. Shah was mourned for his wife for 2 long years. Shah Jahan was so sad that he locked himself in his private chambers for a month. He finally came out, his beard and hair had turned white, and had decided to build a monument that no one has ever seen. It was 1631 when it was beginning to build. More than 20,000 men had worked on the Taj Mahal for 22 years. 1653 was the year that the Taj Mahal construction was finished. Shah Jahan had buried Arjumand Banu's dead body in the Taj Mahal, the monument made for her. They are a few legends about the Taj Mahal but most people do not know if it is true or not. For example, there is a legend that says that Shah Jahan had cut off all the worker's right hands. He did this so that none of the worker's can build this beautiful monument for anyone else again. Shah Jahan had also requested to bury himself next to the Taj Mahal so that he could be closer to his wife's memories and the body itself for Arjumand Banu was his favorite that he ever had. His request was done by the family and nowadays his art work of the monument is admired and appreciated by thousands and millions of people from places all over the world.
