Brief History
There are eight kinds of dances in India right now. Bharata Natyam, Kathakali, Kathak, Odissi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi and Kutiyattam. All of these styles of dancing came from specific parts of India and they still practice it today. For example, the Odissi comes from Orissa(now called Odisha), a state that is located on the east coast of India.
Odissi is a dance that symbolize/worship Krishna, the state's god.

Many dances in India represents a story of some Indian god, or some tales about Indian journeys/adventures. Such as Hindu god, etc.
