Agriculture of India
History
India's agriculture extends to around ten thousand years ago. It is said that the agriculture there starteed when "civilized" society started on the world. In the old times, all of the farming was done by labor work. There were no machines or good technology at that time, so everything was done by hand. Around six thousand years ago, the idea of using animals came up. This saved a lot of work for the people farming. Buffalo were used the most often for plowing the soil to grow crops. Later, the system of irrigation was invented. Dams, resevoirs, water mills, and many other things were created to help make farming a lot faster. Now a days, we see machines of all kinds everywhere on farms, which saved a lot of hard work for This is a pictures of a man with his the farmers. The monsoons brought very heavy rain to India, but farmers there used the irrigational system to collect the water and grow the plants. When the rain is unevenly falling in different areas, more irrigation is used, and when it is evenly distributed, not as mich irrigation is needed to get the water. There were also different types of irrigation, which were used for different causes. There was well irrigation where they used wells to catch rain water. There was also canal irrigation where farmers used reseviors to catch the water in canals. There was inundation irrigation as well. It was used to control floods and make sure water could flow out quick enough for the floods to not overgrow. However, these did not give water all year long. Other types of irrigation were used as well, but they were not used as much as these. Using all these systems, farmers grew different kinds of crops, too, such as cash crops, plantation crops, rabbi crops, or kharif crops.
