India's christianity
Section I: History
Christianity is the third largest religion in India and about 2.5 percent of the whole population follows christianity which is 27 million people. Today there are about 27 million Christians in India, nearly the total population of Canada. Christianity came to India in two main periods. The first time was first century missionary activity of Thomas, the disciple of Jesus, and the second time was Western missionary activity from 1500 to 1975. Due to the lack of imformation, the origin of Christianity in India has been the subject of controversy among historians. According to the legend, Apostle Thomas first came to Kerla in south India and made the first church in AD 52. He established the trade routes and made a lot of people into christians. In the 16th century, Jesuit Saint Francis Xavier expanded Christian to the western part of India and the christians were treated as a religion of the poor. Beginning of the 18th century, the protestant missionaries spread the christianity in India which actually lead to the growth of indian christianities. The missionaries actually came to India to respond to poverty and famine.
Important Figures of Christianity in India

Connecting (moving on)
Christianity in India has relationship with Hinduism because they are both religions in India. Hinduism is the largest religion in the whole India subcontinent. Hinduism could've started at Indus river because Hindu in Persian means Indus river. Hinduism first came to India at 7th century, which forced the Buddhists to be Hinduist. But in the Akbar's rules, Inda had freedom of religion and all the problem was solved.
Christianity also has similarity with Buddhism because that they are both one of the religion in India. Buddhism was originated from India, than it divided up to 2 groups. One spread to the north when the other spread to the south. Buddhism started 2500 years before, which had more than 2500 followers. Buddhism usually means "blank" which is nothing.
Christianity also has similarities with Islam because they're both religion in India. Islam is the second largest religion in the whole world. In Arabian, Islam means "submission”. Etymologically, it comes from same root as, for example, Salam, which means "peace" (also a common greeting). The word Muslim is directly related to the word Islam and means "one who surrenders" or "submits" to God.
